The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams

I knew very little about this book before starting reading it, apart from watching a few reviews on YouTube, all of which gave a mixed view of what to expect. One such reviewer who gave a negative review claimed it was all worldbuilding and no substance. I couldn't disagree more! Obviously every reader has the right to their own opinions. However, what I feel this reviewer didn't understand is that this novels world is almost as much a mystery to it's inhabitants as it is to us, it's readers. You therefore journey with them on their discovery. While in other fantasy novels the world is confidentiality understood by it's cast, the confidence isn't there here, so there is a lot of uncertainty occuring. I feel therefore the problem this particular reviewer had was less to do with too much worldbuilding, and far more to do with how this worldbuilding was exposited. For me, this departure was what drew me in!
